Accessibility Statement

What we have built into this site, what still falls short, and how to tell us when something blocks you.

Last updated: 5 August 2026

Our target

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. This statement describes the public marketing and policy pages. It is written to be accurate rather than flattering: where we do not yet meet the standard, it says so.

What is in place

  • Keyboard access. Every link, button, form field and expandable section can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone, in a logical order.
  • Skip link. A "Skip to content" link is the first thing you reach on every page, so you do not have to tab through the menu each time.
  • Visible focus. The focused element always has a clear outline, in both the light and dark themes.
  • Semantic structure. Real landmarks (header, navigation, main, footer), one h1 per page and headings in order, so screen reader navigation works.
  • Labelled forms. Every input has a visible label. Errors are announced, described in text rather than colour alone, and linked to the field they belong to.
  • Contrast. Text and interface colours meet the AA contrast ratio in both themes.
  • Reduced motion. If your system asks for reduced motion, transitions and smooth scrolling are switched off.
  • Zoom and reflow. The layout reflows to 200% zoom and down to a 320-pixel wide screen without horizontal scrolling or loss of content.
  • No motion traps. Nothing auto-plays, flashes, or moves without you asking it to.
  • Theme choice. The site follows your system light or dark preference, and you can override it from the header.

Known limitations

  • Wide policy tables scroll horizontally inside their own container on very narrow screens. The content is all reachable, but the side-scroll is not ideal.
  • Expandable question panels are native browser elements. Their behaviour is consistent, but announcement wording differs between screen readers.
  • The member area behind sign-in is being rebuilt and is not covered by this statement. It will be assessed against the same standard before it reopens.
  • We have tested with keyboard navigation, browser zoom and automated contrast checks. We have not yet completed a formal audit with an external specialist.
